Case Study: Lightful Learning
Strategic LMS review, optimisation and strategy
Lightful is a Certified B Corporation working with charities and non-profits to help them increase their fundraising capability via digital media through the use of their products and services.
They provide a proprietary social media management platform alongside live sessions and a BRIDGE programme (Building Resilience in Digital Growth and Engagement) which was originally delivered via a Docebo LMS. BRIDGE is a 6 or 12-month online programme for charities. It’s specifically aimed at developing digital skills to increase engagement and fundraising capability.
Docebo LMS had been licensed until July 2021 and Lightful wanted to either optimise its use to improve the overall learner experience of those on the BRIDGE programme, or choose an alternative platform that would be more fit for purpose.
Lightful approached Learn Fox and asked us to review their existing LMS and advise how the structure of their BRIDGE programme could be redesigned to improve learner engagement and increase learner outcomes.
Key aims:
review and identify how to make the most of the existing LMS
increase engagement of learning programmes
move forward with a clear, actionable plan for taking both of the above elements forward
The process
Learn Fox carried out a strategic review of Lightful’s existing LMS platform and in-house ‘BRIDGE’ programme. From, this a detailed strategic report was produced detailing how they could optimise their platform better and enhance the user experience of their programme through improved learning design.
The report focused on key areas for development to improve their learning design and included the following recommendations for the LMS:
Review of the program structure
Key LMS configuration changes
Authoring tools that could be utilised
Best practice content creation
Ways to strengthen participant engagement
Data & analytics
LMS ownership
And in relation to the review and re-design of the BRIDGE programme, the following phases were suggested and subsequently actioned:
Phase 1 - an end-to-end review of the content
The output of this was a roadmap to outline the re-design required in order to optimise and scale the content. Areas reviewed included:
how to make it more blended and bite-sized
how to utilise social learning capability within the LMS to increase engagement and collaboration
how to utilise gamification mechanics to engage users
how to adapt the programme for different audience niches
Phase 2 - implementing the redesign
This was scoped from the above roadmap, and involved:
A strategic review of the Lightful Learning LMS to decide whether to optimise the current LMS or identify the requirements for an alternative platform
A review to discover whether Docebo was being fully optimised
Redesigning the LMS dashboard/ homepages to improve the user experience
Leveraging gamification mechanics and social ‘peer-to-peer’ learning to increase engagement
Reconsidering the design of the content as a more blended approach and providing access to bitesize content via the platform
Determining metrics and KPIs to demonstrate outcomes and how these could be best be tracked utilising LMS analytics
Additionally, after the original project was completed, Learn Fox was commissioned by Lightful to build a learning design blueprint for building content in Articulate Rise and optimising LMS functionality to enhance the user experience.
“We have a much greater understanding of our LMS and are using it to its fullest capabilities and have started to deliver our learning in rich, interactive SCORM content, having previously relied solely on recorded videos. This move to shorter form, interactive content has increased engagement.”

Outcomes
Learn Fox recommendations across design, user experience, development and relationship management were combined to create Lightful’s own multi-disciplinary project, "Project Fox".
The LMS was completely redesigned from a UI, UX and terminology perspective.

“The updated onboarding process has made the start of new learning programs much smoother, both internally and externally, resulting in a bigger impact on customers from the very beginning. Feedback from new participants has been great, and usage is up. Lightful now routinely demo their LMS in sales calls, whereas previously it wasn’t an integral part of conversations.”
