Case Study: Unilever
Global digital transformation
FMCG brand Unilever have embarked on a global digital transformation to apply technology throughout the value chain. A key enabler to this is the global cross-functional L&D teams delivering key learning initiatives on future-fit skills to build workforce capability as part of the digital transformation and Future of Work agenda.
As a key component of this, the Supply Chain (which is the largest part of the business with a head count of 105,000 out of 160,000) has defined a transformation agenda identifying organisational enablers to help land the transformation, to build robust future skills capability ensuring essential critical ‘future’ skills are in place, and create a cultural shift to engage the community and foster a love for lifelong learning.
Key projects
Working with the global Supply Chain Academy team on several projects Learn Fox Founder Laura Lee-Gibbs has project managed and provided digital learning consultancy on some key pioneering initiatives to skill up the global workforce. These have included:
Curation and learning design of key future skills learning pathways on topics such as Digital Awareness and Data Analytics within the LXP (Degreed) including design of a certified knowledge test. The project has involved user experience design to ensure that learners from across the business can engage with the pathway and can easily find and utilise additional resources.
Planning the delivery of a virtual ‘future skills’ learning day (as part of the activation strategy) with 8 speakers (including Gartner) to a global audience with a live audience of 3,000 and an activation campaign of the recorded event that reached an audience of 10,000.
Development of blueprint and deployment plan for digitising factory onboarding during COVID to improve consistency of rapid onboarding of agency staff and increase speed to competency.
The pathway has been translated into other languages for a global audience of 160,000 end-users, and Laura worked with a learning lead in China to host resources that would be accessible to the Chinese learners who are not able to access sites like YouTube and TED due to government restrictions.
Design and deployment of communication and adoption campaigns involving emailers, news articles on internal news portals, use of social media such as Yammer and MS Teams and worked with sub-function leads & 3rd party vendors to create games, competitions, videos and collate learner and leader testimonials to promote usage.
Creation of activation materials and directing a pilot group of European factories in user acceptance testing and rollout.
Activation of the learning initiatives to the global supply chain and wider business, involving the creation of an activation pack of communication collateral, which Laura supported activists across the global business to deploy.
Project management, design & build of future-fit role plans on the LXP for Supply Chain as part of a wider global learning initiative to equip all Unilever staff with the necessary priority skills and learning to stay relevant in the VUCA world.
“Laura and I have worked together on several learning system and e-learning projects at Unilever. Laura has completed some really excellent work on the projects she has focused on. She has great knowledge of learning systems, and the learning process.”
